The Community House office hours

Monday to Friday 9am - 2.30pm.



Other Services

We also provide a referral service, Free Tax Help Volunteers to assist with your tax returns, Red Cross Christmas Hampers. We have a strict policy of confidentiality and can assure that all matters are kept private and confidential.


Other facilities

Available also are photocopying, (20 cents per A4 sheet, 30 cents per A3), Laminating (from $1.50 per A4 sheet), fax ( $1 per sheet), Internet access and email for $2 per hour.


House Hire

The House is available for hire most evenings and weekends. The ALP and Rosetta Neighborhood Watch hold monthly meetings. The house is also available for functions at the disecresion of the Committee. There are full kitchen facilities but please provide your own tea, coffee, sugar, milk etc as no food is provided. Costs $5.50 per hour for meetings and functions from $55 with $100 bond payable in advance. (All prices are GST inclusive)


Helping within the community and motivating people's learning skills


The Community House aims to encourage people to learn new skills. It is part of the National Link Program and is classified as a place of Adult Learning. By learning and becoming accomplished at new skills it has been found that a persons self esteem grows as well. They begin to appreciate themselves and others more. The Support Program aims to encourage the frail, elderly and disabled to be more active in the community and not feel so house bound.

Key responsibilities

Jim is responsible for the day to day running of the centre including organising classes and courses, office duties, fundraising and much more. Jim works closely with the committee, tutors, childcarers and Youth workers to ensure the centre runs effeciently and is an enjoyable place for the members of the community to visit.


Department

The Community House is funded mainly by the Department of health and Human Services. Funding is also provided by other agencies such as Sport and Recreation, Glenorchy City Council, Adult Ed (ACE) and miscellaneous support agencies.


Management Committee

The financial and legal responsibilities of the Chigwell Community House and Chigwell Support Program are handled by The Chigwell Community House Inc Management Committee. The committee has a President, Vice president, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Officer and 5-9 general committee members. The AGM is held each August/September where the committee is elected. The Community House also has a financial membership of approximately 35 members. To be a financial member you need only live in the area. Cost is only $1.10 per Financial Year(gst inclusive). This entitials you to vote at the annual General Meeting and any special Meetings that are held. You are also welcome to attend any General Meetings but you do not have any voting rights at these meetings.
